The Skill of Acceptance
We all deal with stress; it’s a part of life. Anxious feelings can manifest in more ways than worry. Sometimes we’re easily agitated, frustrated, overwhelmed, and moody without realizing the root cause of it all. Fortunately, we have many tools in our arsenal that can help us cope.
One of the most powerful tools we can learn to manage stress is acceptance. Learning to accept things as they are, that we do not have control over everything and that that’s okay — is a very liberating concept. Many traditions of thought are rooted in this idea of acceptance – Buddhism and Stoicism, to name a few. Acceptance is a skill that develops through practice over time.
How Essential Oils Can Help
In addition to learning acceptance, essential oils can be beneficial to soothe our minds and bodies. One way essential oils do this is through training our brains to respond to situations with a set intention. When we associate specific smells with a particular purpose, we begin to create new neural pathways. This practice can help us learn how to respond to situations healthily. Essential oils also have chemical properties that can induce states of euphoria, relaxation, and other positive states of mind.
Sleep & Relaxation
Did you know that 50 to 70 million people in the United States suffer from one or more sleep disorders? Sleep is vital for both our mental and physical health, but few of us really know how essential it is. In typical fashion, we take sleep forgranted.
Sleep deprivation is often compared to being drunk. When we think of it this way, it reframes our world. Would you go about your work day, parenting, or driving while drunk? Hopefully not. But this is something that sleep-deprived people in the United States do on a regular basis.
Stress can contribute to sleep issues BIG time – this is where essential oils may benefit you.
