Spinach Basil Pesto – EO Recipe

Spinach-Basil-Pesto

Every wish you had it in you to eat more spinach? 

Well, now you can turn your spinach into a tasty sauce that you could spread on toast, eat with chicken, mix into rice, dip carrot sticks into, and more! Follow this recipe to make your own spinach pesto! It’s fast, it’s easy, and it’s delicious!

Ingredients: 

  • Three cups of spinach
  • 1-3 cloves of garlic
  • ⅓ cup nuts (pine nuts, walnuts, almonds, etc)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 ½ tbsp of lemon juice
  • 2 drops of Basil oil
  • 4 drops of citrus oil (we prefer to use Grapefruit oil)

Tools: 

  • Food processor or blender
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Refrigerator container for the finished pesto sauce

Instructions: 

With a food processor:

  • Peel the garlic cloves you want to use. 
  • If desired, for easier processing, you can pre-chop the garlic and the spinach. 
  • Combine the spinach, garlic, nuts, and parmesan cheese in the food processor and blend until chunky (when the largest pieces are about a third the size of a popcorn kernel)
  • Combine the olive oil, essential oils, salt, and lemon juice separately. 
  • Combine the two mixtures. For best flavor infusion, allow the complete mixture to sit in the refrigerator for an hour or two. 
  • Enjoy! (Refrigerate when not in use.)

With a blender: 

  • Peel the garlic cloves you want to use. 
  • If desired, for easier blending, pre-chop the garlic and the spinach. 
  • Combine the spinach, garlic, and nuts, in the blender and blend until chunky. You may want to add a little olive oil and/or the 1½ tbsp of lemon juice to the mixture to help the blender run. Blend until all the spinach has been processed. 
  • Combine the remaining olive oil, essential oils, salt, lemon juice, and parmesan cheese separately. 
  • Combine the two mixtures. For best flavor infusion, allow the complete mixture to sit in the refrigerator for an hour or two. 
  • Enjoy! (Refrigerate when not in use.)

Safety

Note that it is VERY important to only use the purest highest-quality essential oils for use in food recipes. Check your EO company’s website for guidance on which of their essential oils are safe for internal use.

Before using any oils internally,  it is also best to check with your doctor to be sure the oils you plan to use won’t interfere with any health condition you have or any medications you are taking.
